Acts 3:17-21, Peter Just Won't Shut Up

After the nosy Jew left, Peter collected himself and continued.

And now friends, I know that you and your rulers acted in ignorance. God works through the ignorance of man, for they are low hanging figs. In this way God fulfilled what we now reinterpret that he foretold through all the prophets, that his Messiah would suffer. Yes, all the prophets, by which I mean David, who I proved was a prophet.

Oh by the way, we're working on some really promising wordsfrom the prophet Isaiah, but not until we "clean up" some of the historical details of how you Jews killed our Lord.a

Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, so that times of refreshments and tea may come from the presence of the Lord. And if you find repenting too hard, then just try believing or something - as long as you feel good about yourselves and do whatever we say. If you do, God will send the Messiah appointed for you. What? Who? No, not Elijah. Haven't you been paying attention? Jesus Christ.

Yes, Jesus Christ! He who must remain in heaven for some reason until the time of universal restoration that God announced long ago. In secret code. Through his holy prophets named David. Yes, David. We're sticking to that.

And some of the devout Jews said amongst themselves, "How convenient." Yet others said, "Peter's okay, but he's no John the Baptist."
